Update on Perspectives 9th Annual OPEN Call

Clint Mansell, our juror for the OPEN call exhibit, has chosen the following 25 artists for Perspectives. Having 299 images of art from which to select, Mr. Mansell is pleased to announce these artists:

With the closure of DC non essential organizations and businesses, CHAL has canceled the April 4 reception and will present an online exhibit on April 4th! Stay tuned and all those who entered will receive an email invite to view the juried artwork. Thank you ALL for entering!

Edge of the Flat Earth by Michael McSorley

People see the world differently based on experiences and perceptions. Viewpoints are influenced by people, places, emotions, and thoughts. Please share your artistic and unique “perspective” for this juried show.

Open to artists, 18 years and older, residing in the DC/VA/MD area, 2-d and 3-d work.

Digital Entry: Selections for this exhibit will be made by the juror from JPEG images submitted online by the artists. All work must be original and signed by the artist. Photographs and digital manipulations are considered original. All work must have been created within the last three years. Work previously juried into a CHAL exhibit may not be submitted. Previously non-acceptedwork may be submitted.

Entry Fees: Non-members may submit 3 entries for a non-refundable fee of $35.  CHAL members’ discounted fee is $25 and the link was emailed to all members.  Up to two additional entries maybe submitted at $5 each for members and non-members. Artists submitting 3-dimensional work may provide two images of each piece, front view and side view.

RHYTHM + BLUES

Open Reception: February 15, 5:00 – 7:00 PM (suggestion-wear BLUE!)

Where: Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, 545 7th St SE, DC

Capitol Hill Art League artists get down with their artistic vibes! 2-D and 3-D art work in all mediums represented. The theme can be interpreted many ways, examples are rhythmic patterns, dominant blue colors, R&B music ideas, etc, so use your imagination and get in the groove! Receiving entries: February 8 +10, 9:30 -11:30 am at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop. All instructions for members will be sent via google group for CHAL-look for that in your emails! Not accepted? Please pick up your work asap in the closet at CHAW.

Juror and Artist: Justyne Fischer

About our juror: Justyne Fischer is an award winning printmaker from DC whose work focuses on Social Memorials. She maintains a printmaking studio at Blue Studios Art Underground in Arlington, Virginia.  Her art works are featured in numerous private and public collections, including the Boston Public Library, the Boston Athenaeum, Tulane University, Montgomery College, the Detroit Public Library, Florida A&M University, and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Fischer currently teaches AP art full time to nationally recognized and award-winning students at South County High School in Lorton, Virginia

Sept. 9 Greg Staley Photoshoot for CHAL members

CHAL artists who need their artwork professionally photographed, please set this date on your calendar and RSVP for your slot. We need a minimum of 5 artists or so to hire Greg Staley.

Date: Sept. 9 from 10:30am-12:30pm in the Black Box Theatre at CHAW
                                                      Deliver by 9:30 AM, Pick up at 1 PM.

RSVP to klm@kate-mcconnell.com  and she will contact you via email. Put in your subject line: Greg Photoshoot and please let her know approx how many pieces of artwork that you intend to have photographed.

Fee: $10.00-$15.00 per item cash or check payable to Greg Staley
Payment: Check or cash-paid to Greg Staley at the day of the photo shoot.
