The Capitol Hill Art League hosts its annual region-wide art competition show with an opening reception on Saturday, March7^th from 5-7 PM at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop located at 545 Seventh Street, S.E, Washington, DC 2003. The show, entitled Food for Thought, juried by well-known Washington food writer Bonny Wolf, pays note to Washington, D.C.’s status as a foodie town. From creative fare to celebrity chefs to unique venues, the nation’s capital boasts diverse restaurants that fit any palette and price range. There may be more talk about food in DC than politics these days. The selected artists’ works represent many media and a range of subjects from humble vegetables, comfort food and artistic concepts that creatively capture the ever-popular topic of food. Bonny Wolf is a journalist who contributes a monthly food commentary to NPR’s award-winning “Weekend Edition”, is author of “Talking with My Mouth Full – Crabcakes Bundt Cakes and Other Kitchen Stories” and is managing editor of American Food Roots, a national food blog.

This is a multi-media show, which runs through April 16th, 2015. The Arts Workshop is located three blocks south of the renowned Eastern Market on Capitol Hill.

CHAL artist Kay Fuller presents Driven to Abstraction, the sixth solo exhibit in a series of CHAL artists at the wine bar managed by the Four Seasons Hotel. The location is 2810 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington DC.  This exhibit opens January 30th and runs through February 28th. Meet the artist at the exhibit reception on Sunday February 8th, 6:30-8pm.

She states” “I live to create art to bring joy to the viewer.  Watercolor is my medium of choice, but I thoroughly enjoy acrylics and collage.  I am always open to learning new ways to express my passion. You could say that I am a cactus flower when it comes to art.  I did not pick up a paintbrush until I was eligible for Social Security, but once introduced to watercolor painting, it became my passion.   My first painting workshop was part of a vacation in Provence in 2005.”

CHAL artist Jill Finsen is presenting the fifth solo exhibit in a series of CHAL artists at the wine bar managed by the Four Seasons Hotel. Location is 2810 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington DC. She hosts a closing reception on Thursday January 29th, 6-8pm on the second floor of the wine bar. This exhibit runs through January 29th.

Working in the spirit of primitive or naïve styles, Jill’s composition, color and generous application of paint balances form and rhythm to create distinct and whimsical images. CHAL artists kick off the New Year by presenting a multi-media show of their finest work, opening tomorrow at the Hill Center at the Old Naval Hospital 921 Pennsylvania Avenue, SE, Washington, DC. The show is juried by Alan Braley and Nicky Cymrot, serving as the curatorial committee for the Hill Center. Long time Hill residents, they have been both a part of CHAL and the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop.

The CHAL small-works exhibit, Personally Speaking… opens January 8th and runs through March 5th. CHAL artists share with the world their personal style and show works that hold a personal meaning to them in a 12×12” format. This exhibit is juried by CHAW art instructor Ellen Cornett and installed on the CHAL Wall in the CHAW Gallery.
