10 to 12 CHAL artists have the opportunity to exhibit 6-15 pieces of their two-dimensional art at the Results Gym on Capitol Hill. Artists will handle sales directly without any commission being collected. Installation is Saturday May 30th at 10am, and this show will run through Saturday July 25th when artists must remove their works at 10am.Artists must be there to hang their own artworks. What’s Poppin’ – CHAL Juried Show in April
Spring is here! Be merry. Be Bright. Be Colorful. Whether it is your spin on Pop Art or what has just popped up in your garden, CHAL members showcase art work that celebrates the season. CHAL hosts its next juried multi-media members-only art exhibit, What’s Poppin,’ April 18th through May 30th in the Gallery at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop. The list of exhibiting artists and their works are downloadable here. Opening Reception: Saturday April 18th, 5-7pm with juror’s remarks to begin at 5:30pm
About the Juror: Mary Ellen Vehlow is co-owner of Gallery O on H Street and principal in Pensare Design Company in downtown Washington, DC. Mary Ellen has co-curated exhibitions for the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore. AVAM is an art museum located in Baltimore’s Federal Hill neighborhood, which specializes in the preservation and display of visionary art (also known as outsider art). It has been designated by Congress as America’s national museum for self-taught art.
Tati Valle-Riestra at ENO Wine Bar
CHAL artist Tati Valle-Riestra presents Works on Paper, the seventh solo exhibit in a series of CHAL artists at ENO, the wine bar managed by the Four Seasons Hotel. The location is 2810 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington DC. This exhibit runs through March 31st. Meet the artist at the exhibit reception on Sunday March 22nd, 5:30-7:30.
“Tati” Maria del Carmen Valle-Riestra was born and grew up in Lima, Peru. Tati has been a dancer since a child, a visual artist for a decade and a scientist since the Eighties. In 2001 she began drawing and painting at the continuing education art programs of Arlington Community Center and Georgetown University, and continued with art classes for several years at The Art League School of Alexandria. She is a member of both the Art League of Alexandria and the Capitol Hill Art League. Her work has also been featured in other group exhibits at The Hill Center; Lost Creek Winery, VA; Children’s Hospital, DC; Artspace 109, VA; Kelly’s Fine Art Gallery; and The Corner Store on Capitol Hill. She has had two solo exhibits of her figurative work titled Bodies of ink and Hombres in 2012 and 2013-14 at Artspace 109, Alexandria, VA. She has been a member of the Washington dance company Dana Tai Soon Burgess since 2000, and she currently teaches dance at Episcopal High School, Alexandria, VA. Tati holds a B.Sc. in Marine Biology from the University of Guelph, Canada and a Licenciate degree in Biology from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH), Lima, Peru. Call for Entries – Harmony Hall
This June CHAL member artists and CHAW faculty have the fabulous opportunity to exhibit work at one of the most lovely art galleries in the Washington DC Metro region – Arts/Harmony Hall Regional Center. Arts/Harmony Hall is managed by the Maryland-National Capitol Park and Planning Commission and supported by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council. The Art Gallery, with over 200 linear feet of wall space has been specifically designed as a fine art Space and allows for a variety of sizes and media to be exhibited successfully.
The dates of the exhibit are June 1st through July 24th, 2015. There is no fee to submit to this exhibit. Please note: The deadline for submissions has been extended to Friday April 10th. Food For Thought
The Capitol Hill Art League hosts its annual region-wide art competition show with an opening reception on Saturday, March7th from 5-7 PM at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop located at 545 Seventh Street, S.E, Washington, DC 2003. The show, entitled Food for Thought, juried by well-known Washington food writer Bonny Wolf, pays note to Washington, D.C.’s status as a foodie town. From creative fare to celebrity chefs to unique venues, the nation’s capital boasts diverse restaurants that fit any palette and price range. There may be more talk about food in DC than politics these days. The selected artists’ works represent many media and a range of subjects from humble vegetables, comfort food and artistic concepts that creatively capture the ever-popular topic of food. Bonny Wolf is a journalist who contributes a monthly food commentary to NPR’s award-winning “Weekend Edition”, is author of “Talking with My Mouth Full – Crabcakes Bundt Cakes and Other Kitchen Stories” and is managing editor of American Food Roots, a national food blog.
This is a multi-media show, which runs through April 16th, 2015. The Arts Workshop is located three blocks south of the renowned Eastern Market on Capitol Hill.
