SPRING THEME: Community Forklift Art Sale-Garden Party

Community Forklift Garden Party and Art Sale April 1 & April 2

Where: 4671 Tanglewood Drive,Edmonston,MD      When: April 1, Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday April 2,  11am – 3pm

Exhibit and Sales Opportunity. The Community Forklift (CFL) will feature some CHAL artists at their CFL Garden Party and Art Sale. CHAL artists may enter up to FOUR works with a “Spring-Theme”. Bins will be available to sell shrink-wrapped, matted, original paintings and greeting cards. Please read details and entry info here.

Also, Community Forklift is offering 5 artists for each of their First Friday’s May-Sept the opportunity to sell their work on a first come sign up basis from 6-8pm with set up between 4pm-5pm. No commission taken. If interested contact: Rachel@CommunityForklift.org

Spring or garden attire optional. Use your creative imagination!

Volunteer Opportunities. Every participant will need to volunteer for a shift during receiving, set-up, serving at the sales table, and/or break down. Kathy Clowery will be sending information about volunteering in March.

CHAL 6th Annual/Open Exhibit/Reception/Awards: Vessels

Chris Cooley, Juror, and First Place winner: Kenneth Bachman: Boats in Bermuda Harbor

The Capitol Hill Art League (CHAL) hosted its reception for the sixth annual, juried, open call show on Saturday, February 4th  at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop. This exhibit, open daily, features 2-d and 3-d works of 29 artists from around the Washington region.Click here for the list of artists.

Juror Chris Cooley presented awards as follows: Kenneth Bachman: First Place for Boats in Bermuda Harbor (oil painting, shown above)
Joan Ulrich: Second Place for Cloud Storage Jar (pottery)
Karash Payne: Third prize for Emerge (oil painting)
Fritz Schaper: Honorable Mention for Viking Funeral and The Red Mask (mixed media)
Daniel Venne: Honorable Mention for Man With a Shell (pastel)

Chris Cooley, an art education major from Utah State,  was drafted in 2004 by Washington Redskins and played nine years with the team. He now enjoys painting and throwing pots and is the owner of The Cooley Gallery in Leesburg, VA.

Exhibit dates: February 4-28, 2017  Reception: Feb. 4, 5-7pm at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW), 545 Seventh St. SE, Washington DC

Capitol Hill Banner Design Winners 2017 and Art Auction

The winners of the Capitol Hill Banner Design Contest are as follows: “Hill Icons” by Tara Hamilton (top left), “Effervescence Hill” by Rindy O’Brien and Elizabeth Eby (top right), “Chilly Day at Eastern Market” by Linda Norton (bottom left), and “Capitol Hill in Living Color” by Kay Fuller (bottom right). Congratulations!

The theme “It’s all here on the Hill”,  portrayed in the winning designs have been reproduced on banners and now hang on over 100 light poles throughout Capitol Hill neighborhood. Go see them!

The  Capitol Hill Business Improvement District (BID) will hold a short unveiling ceremony  Thursday, February 2nd at noon at the Eastern Market Metro PlazaAt the ceremony, the four banners selected from the competition will be on display and awards will be presented to the five CHAL artists who created them. Light refreshments will be available. Come and meet these artists!

All the artists who entered the competition will have an opportunity for their work to be auctioned off to the public, on Feb. 28, with the funds raised being split 50/50 between the artist and the BID’s Ready, Willing & Working charity program. Click here for the catalog of art to be auctioned.
