March 24 Community Forklift’s Annual Spring Garden Party/Sale

Community Forklift’s Annual Spring Garden Party/Sale  March 24, 2018 from 9am-3pm.

Setup  for Chal members/artists: March 23, 2018 from 5-7 pm. Bring up to six items and you will hang those on the walls. Bring hammers please!  We will have bins for works in clear bags, and tables for hand-made or printed pieces, i.e. coasters, cutting boards, single and boxed cards and matted prints, etc. Each participant must volunteer to set up, man the sales tables, and take down.  The sales table will need two people for each of three two hour shifts, 9-11, 11-1, or 1-3

There is no charge to participate in this event and no commission is taken.  All money collected will be given to the artists.  Last year CHAL participants gave a donation to CFL to support the work they do for the community and those in need. We ask that each artist bring an envelope with your name and about $20 in small bills and change.  This will be returned to you at the end of the event.

Jan-Feb 2018 Brian Truesdale at ENO Wine Bar in Georgetown

   Moving to Arlington, VA in May 2017, Brian Truesdale is mostly a self-taught acrylic, abstract artist. He took classes periodically at the Delaplaine Visual Arts and Education Center in Frederick, MD from 2012-2016, and studied privately with established artists in the Frederick area. Truesdale has exhibited his work throughout the MD and DC Metro regions, solo shows at Delaplaine Visual Arts and Education Center and Frederick Community College in addition to several group shows. Brian is a member of The Artists Gallery,  Be Dot Gallery in Frederick, MD and Foundry Gallery in Washington, D.C. and a new member to Capitol Hill Art League.

Winner’s Circle Reception and Exhibit July 21

 

Capitol Hill Art League proudly presents our  annual “juried winners”‘ from 2017-2018 season shows.

Featured artists: Kim Bursic, Jane Mann, Sally Canzoneri, Kay Fuller, Ann Pickett, Ken Bachman, Karen Cohen, Tara Hamilton, Jim Huttinger, Ann Thomson, JoAnn Laboy, Karen Zens, Meera Rao and Rindy O’Brien.  Note: Marcel Taylor was an award winner, too, but is not exhibiting in this show.

Reception/ free and open to the public: July 21 from 5-7pm

OUR WORLD exhibit April 18-May 31, 2018

The Capitol Hill Art League presents its Seventh Annual Metro DC open juried exhibition: April Show, Theme “Our World” 2018

April 22nd is the anniversary of the modern-day environmental movement.  What better time to honor our world.  We and the world around us is in a constant state of flux, influenced by climate, inhabitants, events, time, and gravity.  The Capitol Hill Art League invites you to express in art form what OUR WORLD means to you? This exhibit is open to 2-d and 3-d work, juried by curator and writer, Eric Hope.

All artists, 18 years of age or older residing in the Washington, DC metropolitan area are eligible to enter. Digital Entry Deadline for submissions is March 10, 2018 (midnight).

Exhibit Dates: April 18-May 31, 2018

Juror: Eric Hope/curator and writer based in Washington, DC,  gained a passion for contemporary art through volunteer marketing work at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden and The Phillips Collection.  In 2009, after over a decade of work at large institutions, he  moved into the realm of curation, staging a variety of solo and group exhibitions at the Evolve Urban Arts Project in the H Street neighborhood of DC.  He is currently a senior Contributor at East City Art, where he has extensively critiqued exhibitions throughout the metro region for the past seven years.

Digital ENTRY:  Selections for the exhibit will be made by the judge from JPEG images submitted online by the artists.  All work must be original and signed by the artist.  Any work previously shown at a Capitol Hill Art League juried exhibit is ineligible. All work must have been created within the last three years.  ENTRY FEES: **Up to 3 entries may be submitted for a non-refundable fee of $30 (current Capitol Hill ART League members $20). Up to two additional entries may be submitted at $5 each.  Artists submitting 3-dimensional work may provide two images of each piece. To enter, go to https://client.smarterentry.com/chal and follow the instructions there.

Awards will include cash awards for Best in Show and Merit awards. Two Honorable Mentions will be awarded. All awards will be presented at the opening reception and judge’s talk on April 21, from 5:00-7:00 PM with the juror presenting his remarks at 6pm.

Artists Choice Reception 2018 at CHAW: Jan. 13 from 5-7PM

Artist’s Choice: All-media, members-only, non-juried exhibit.

Our first non-juried show of the season, “Artist’s Choice” begins in January 2018.  It is time for you to strut your stuff!  You may bring one piece (only) of artwork to CHAW on January 6, between 9:30 and 11:30 am.  We will hang them as they arrive.  If there is wall space left for more art at the end of receiving on Saturday, we will let you know by email, and those of you who did not make it on Saturday can bring your art on Monday January 8, between 9:30 and 11:30 am. Fee: $5 for 1 piece.
There will be a “People’s Choice Award” at the reception, 5-7 pm on January 13.  Exhibition dates: January 8th to February 24th, 2018
