Rhythm and Blues OPENS Feb. 15!

Juror and award winning artist, Justyne Fischer, selected the following CHAL members/artists to exhibit in the Rhythm and Blues members’ show and awarded the following:

First Place: Tamora Ilasat-Compositions in Blue II, collage and acrylic painting

Second Place: Kenneth Bachman- Presence, oil painting

Third Place: Jane Mann-San Diego, photography

Honorable Mentions: Karen Cohen-Federal Brass Band 2019, photography/collage

J Jaffery- “all I own are the rhythm of my breath and the beatings of my heart.” Digital photography

Nan Raphael-This Too Shall Pass, photography

Award certificates were announced at our reception along with juror’s remarks by Justyne Fischer.

Edge of the Flat Earth by Michael McSorley

People see the world differently based on experiences and perceptions. Viewpoints are influenced by people, places, emotions, and thoughts. Please share your artistic and unique “perspective” for this juried show.

Open to artists, 18 years and older, residing in the DC/VA/MD area, 2-d and 3-d work.

Digital Entry: Selections for this exhibit will be made by the juror from JPEG images submitted online by the artists. All work must be original and signed by the artist. Photographs and digital manipulations are considered original. All work must have been created within the last three years. Work previously juried into a CHAL exhibit may not be submitted. Previously non-acceptedwork may be submitted.

Entry Fees: Non-members may submit 3 entries for a non-refundable fee of $35.  CHAL members’ discounted fee is $25 and the link was emailed to all members.  Up to two additional entries maybe submitted at $5 each for members and non-members. Artists submitting 3-dimensional work may provide two images of each piece, front view and side view.

Referrals: Members are required to remit to CHAL a percentage of any art sales made through CHAW gallery, Website, blog or CHAL promotional outreach.  If CHAL/CHAW is contacted by a prospective patron who wishes to see additional work by an artist and a sale is made, and the artist handles the entire process, the artist remits a 10% referral fee to CHAL. Tuesday Mornings Art Critique Group 2020

Calling all members: Please bring works in progress, finished or unfinished artwork, (YOUR CHOICE), for 1-2 works of art for a free peer group critique for CHAL members offering constructive and positive suggestions from 10am-12noon at CHAW, held in the downstairs darkroom space-ask at the desk to be sure.  Contact carolynrondthaler@gmail.com if you need more information. This group meets once a month on the first Tuesday of every month.

Dates for 2020: Feb 4, Mar 3, April 7, May 5, June 2, July 7, August 4, September 1- mark your calendars and join in productive FUN.

Have your art work photographed professionally and digitally!- February 24 from 9:30 – Noon

Where: Capitol Hill Arts Workshop/Black Box Theatre

CHAL Members bring work to be professionally photographed. Deliver by 9:30 AM, Pick up at 1 PM.
