ANYTHING GOES — CHAL juried exhibit at CHAW Gallery

CHAL’s juried exhibit Anything Goes opens October 4th and runs through November 13th in the CHAW Gallery. This show has been juried by Michael Janis, Co-Director of Washington Glass School.  The opening reception was Saturday, October 4, 2014 – 5 to 7 p.m. in CHAW gallery with the juror giving his remarks 5:30 p.m. First Place has been awarded a solo show on the CHAL Wall in the Gallery for June, 2015.

Michael Janis, Co-Director of the Washington Glass School, juried the first multi-media show of the 2014-2015 season. In his remarks to a full crowd at the October 6th opening, Michael commented on the high quality of art that was submitted. “While there was a very wide array of art, I felt that all of the entries could have been a part of the show, said Michael. He said that he kept coming back to art pieces that had unusual details and something he might not had seen before.”

Michael also spoke about taking risks as artists and he spoke about his own transformation from an architect to doing what he loved – becoming a glass artist. About ten years ago, he was living abroad and decided to return to the States and try something new. He said he signed up for every class being taught in the Washington DC area about glass, and a year later he was being commissioned to make large glass pieces.
